Nourishing Starts

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

These breakfast jars are quick, easy, nourishing and delicious. They are pretty simple and a great way to start the day or brunch style ( if your the type of person that likes to wake up a bit before you eat like I am). Its also a way to get heaps of nourishment without much fuss and looks pretty impressive too.

Find yourself a nice big jar. I tend to collect jars so I always have one handy. I like storing in glassware instead of plastic containers and now there are loads of places you can pick up a funky reusable jar which are easy to wash, store and reuse.

So the concept of the breakfast jar is pretty easy and versatile and you can mix it up depending on what you feel like. This is the basis of my one, I just tend to change the toppings depending on what I have handy and what's in season.

Start by adding in some whole organic rolled oats, flaxseeds & chia seeds. Rolled oats are extremely nourishing for the nervous system and full of vitamins/minerals. Great in the winter months as porridge but for this just add them in raw. The amount of oats & seeds you add will depend on how hungry you are and how much you eat. However, leave room for all the other goodies so about a quarter of the jar is a good start. Next pour in your milk of choice. I choose soy and my favourite is Bonsoy (I know there are lots of debates about soy) but I love it. Cover all the oats & seeds really well with the milk because they will swell soaking up the liquid.

Next add in fresh fruits. (kiwi, pears, papaya, berries, passionfruit, grated apple, banana etc) any fruits you like really so add in lots of variety for colour, flavour and nutrient value.

Top this off with some creamy greek natural yoghurt and your good to go. I topped this one off with some extra toasted muesli and some flaxseed oil. This really only takes a few minutes in the morning and by the time I get to work its ready.
